Biography

The biography for Wouter Hugo van Zijl is empty. What can you add?

The name 'van Zijl' is originating from the river by the same name: Zijl, an affluent from the 'Oude Rijn' (Old Rhine). Just a few hundred metres past the splitting -near the village Leiderdorp- Jan van Ammers built a castle, named 'The House Zijl' (Huys te Zijl or Zijlhof). He and his descendants named themselves 'comimg from the Zijl' >> van Zijl. After years they spread out over Holland, but also over the world.

Born in Windhoek , Namibia on 19 July 1957, Elizabeth House, now part of the Namibia University of Science and Technology

Lived in what is now Nelson Mandela street in a small house now close to the Indian Embassy , later in John Meinert street en finally in Haddy street

My parents relocated to Rundu in the Kavango in 1958 ( when I was one year old) and we lived there until early 1963 when we moved back to Windhoek, Kupferberg strasse

Went to school - Eros Primary School in January 1964 , ms Siebert was my teacher, mr Anthony was the principal

We then moved to 41 Johan Albrecht street in August 1964 , and went to Dr van Rhijn Primary School and in 1971 to Jan Mohr High School

Went to hostel in 1972 when my parents moved back to Rundu

Became sick in July 1973 and did not go to school for six moths ( rheumatic fever, initially and later broke my left hip )

Moved to Mafeking with my family in 1974 and wrote matric in Mafeking High School end of 1974

Dear Wouter,

I'm brand new on WikiTree, but not in researching the Van Zijl-family. But I didn't have data on you, nor your father and two brothers. So may be we can cooperate. Beside: it's nioce to see your family is still using Van Zijl in the Original spelling.

The father of Van der Walt-1527 (also unsourced!) cannot be set as private because the profile is older that 200 years. Please merge!

Dankie, Philip

Hello Wouter,

Hi ,

Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information."

A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.

How Do You Find Sources? offers links to free sources (and a few for subscription). If you can't find a source, try asking about it at the G2G Forum.

The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.

Please contact me with any questions you have about adding sources to the profiles you manage.

Thanks,

Guy ~ WikiTree Mentor

Wouter,

Are you having a problem? I see that you are creating and connecting profiles, then you disconnect the same profiles and merge them?

Is there something I can do to help You? Vic, WikiTree Ranger

Hi Wouter,

Just a quick PS

Don't forget to Head over to the G2G forum. and take a minute to introduce yourself in the Tree House or ask a question in any of the other categories. There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: for that "special" ancestor who is eluding you.

if you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info.

Best Wishes, and have fun adding your leaves and branches!
